Title : Secondary/Additional Professional Activities and Outside Activities of Employed Practitioners Policy and Procedure Number : 3977, Version : 1 Participating in academic program review activities at non-Banner facilities as long as the activities do not involve a direct relationship with a drug or device company/manufacturer. Precepting students (other than residents and fellows) in a Banner facility pursuant to an executed agreement between the applicable Medical Group and the students’ sponsoring institution. 5. For Employed Physicians employed by B—UMG, the authority to approve the following proposed Secondary/Additional Professional Activities within the United States has been delegated by SPAC, at the direction of the AMC, to the respective chairs of the Employed Physicians’ clinical departments in B—UMG: a. Speaking at or otherwise participating in specialty society meetings or other professional conferences as long as the activities do not involve a direct relationship with a drug or device company/manufacturer. Engaging in grand rounds or lecturing opportunities at non-Banner facilities as long as the activities do not involve a direct relationship with a drug or device company/manufacturer. Providing continuing medical education (CME) as long as the activities do not involve a direct relationship with a drug or device company/manufacturer. Participating in academic program review activities at non-Banner facilities as long as the activities do not involve a direct relationship with a drug or device company/manufacturer. Engaging in teaching and proctoring activities to non-Banner physicians as long as the activities do not involve direct patient care and are not in any way sponsored by a drug or device company/manufacturer. Participating in survey-readiness programs and serving as a surveyor for purposes of certification, accreditation and/or licensure of units, programs and facilities as long as the activities do not involve a direct relationship with a drug or device company/manufacturer. 6. For Employed Advanced Practice Providers employed by BMG, BMGC, B—UMG or BUCS, the authority to approve proposed Covered Professional Activities within the United States has been delegated to the Chief Executive Officer of the applicable Medical Group, or his/her designee, with the following exceptions: a. Performing any activities for a drug or device manufacturer. b. Performing expert witness and/or legal consulting services. c. Performing precepting and/or proctoring activities. 7. SPAC designees will follow the procedures outlined in Article IV, Section D, with respect to the proposed Covered Professional Activities. Each SPAC designee also will provide written notice to the chair of SPAC of all actions taken by such SPAC designee with respect to a requested Covered Professional Activity. e. b. c. d. e. f. Special Considerations for Covered Professional Activities Involving Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Companies. 1. An Employed Practitioner’s Covered Professional Activities with pharmaceutical and medical device companies inherently reflect on Banner's reputation and brand, regardless of whether or not such Covered Professional Activities are Secondary/Additional Professional Activities that are performed within the scope of the Employed Practitioner's employment with the applicable Medical Group or Outside Activities that are performed outside the scope of the Employed Practitioner's employment with the applicable Medical Group.
