I.
Purposes/Expected Outcomes: A. Purpose :
1. To clarify the expectations of Banner with respect to the scope of an Employed Practitioner's professional activities in connection with the Employed Practitioner’s employment by the applicable Medical Group. 2. To describe the circumstances under which an Employed Practitioner may be allowed to engage in Secondary/Additional Professional Activities and Outside Activities. 3. To describe the process to be followed in connection with a request to have an Employed Practitioner engage in a Secondary/Additional Professional Activity or an Outside Activity, including the need to obtain fair market value approval. 4. To establish a process for identifying and tracking the Secondary/Activities Professional Activities and the Outside Activities in which Employed Practitioners are engaged on an annual basis. 5. To establish a process for identifying the existence of relationships between prospective Employed Practitioners and Outside Entities prior to employment by the applicable Medical Group. 6. To ensure, through the implementation of prudent and reasonable controls, that all approved Secondary/Additional Professional Activities and Outside Activities are appropriate, are consistent with Banner’s philosophy for Employed Practitioner relationships, and are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including the Physician Payment Sunshine Act. 7. To decrease organizational risk, address possible conflicts of interest, maintain the Banner brand and protect Employed Practitioners, the Medical Groups and patients. 8. To ensure that approved Secondary/Additional Professional Activities and the Outside Activities are beneficial to the Employed Practitioners and to Banner and are supportive of Banner’s Mission, Vision and Values. B. Population : All departments that have employed practitioners or work with prospective employed practitioners. II. Definitions: A. Advanced Practice Provider means a nurse practitioner, physician assistant, clinical nurse specialist, clinical psychologist, nurse midwife, or a certified registered nurse anesthetist. B. AMC means the Academic Management Council, which is the governing board of B— UMG. C. AwRVU means an administrative work relative value unit, which is a measure of value used to compensate Employed Practitioners for certain administrative Secondary/Additional Professional Activities. D. Banner means (a) Banner Health, (b) all direct and indirect wholly-owned subsidiaries of Banner Health, including Banner Medical Group (BMG), Banner Medical Group Colorado (BMGC), Banner—University Medical Group (B—UMG), and Banner Urgent Care Services, LLC (BUCS), and (c) all direct and indirect majority-owned subsidiaries of Banner Health or other entities directly or indirectly controlled or managed by Banner Health with the exception of Sonora Quest Laboratories and others as determined by the Chief Legal Officer. E. Covered Professional Activities means the professional activities covered by this Policy, including the Secondary/Additional Professional Activities and the Outside Activities. Primary Activities are not considered Covered Professional Activities.
